About / Product principles

A clearer result starts with an honest look at the source.

VideoUpscaler is a focused browser product for people who have a real clip that feels too small, too soft or difficult to share on a modern screen.

Why this exists

People want a more useful video, not an editing maze.

Many video tools begin with model names, technical controls and a promise to make every clip look perfect. The person using them usually begins somewhere else: an old recording matters to their family, a product label is hard to read, an animation edge breaks apart or an upload looks worse than the local file.

We are building the product around that moment. The intended flow is short: choose a clip, inspect the difference and save only the version that is genuinely more useful.

How we judge quality

Resolution is one signal—not the definition of success.

A larger file can still contain unstable faces, ringing around text, invented texture or motion that flickers. We therefore judge an upscale by the subject, the intended screen and the final export—not only by a 1080p or 4K label.

  • Keep an original reference visible.
  • Inspect difficult frames and normal-speed playback.
  • State what the current build does and does not do.
  • Prefer a restrained result over an impressive but unstable one.

Current product capability

The local 2× processing and MP4 export path is verified.

Supported MP4/H.264 footage is decoded, enhanced with WebGPU and encoded through WebCodecs in a compatible desktop browser. The tested workflow creates a real 2× MP4 output without sending the selected video to a video-processing server.

Format and device support will expand only after the same output, browser and network checks pass. We would rather state a narrower verified capability than hide uncertainty behind an AI label.
